Stewart Dakers

I have drawn things all my life; still have old school books with sketches in the margins, mainly heads and other body parts!

Much of my work celebrates the joy of which I experienced working in nature conservation for practically twenty years, the furniture and residents of woods, shores and heath land.  Before that, while I lived in Covent Garden, I found wonderful subjects in bustling markets, the flats of the river and its boats and cranes, and in the buildings being demolished, restored, scaffolded.

My major enthusiasm is people.  I enjoy straight portraiture – although it can be a dangerous occupation!  I enjoy most of all constructing ideas from groups of people, they don’t sell particularly well, but then I’m not Hogarth.
